Jun 28, 2021 (newstodate): The second of seven new Airbus A220-300 aircraft to be delivered to Latvia's airBaltic this year is now in the fleet.
The aircraft, the 27th in airBaltic's fleet, landed in Riga Airport on June 27, 2021, after having completed its test flight program.
The seven deliveries planned for 2021 are part of the follow-up order for 50 aircraft, after which the airline still holds options for a further 30 aircraft with Airbus.
Since May 2020, airBaltic is operating a single aircraft type fleet of Airbus A220-300, having phased out all Boeing 737 aircraft and stopped operating the fleet of 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, leased from Nordic Aviation Capital under a contract expiring in 2023.
airBaltic was the launch carrier of the Bombardier CS300, later renamed Airbus A220-300, with its first CS300 on scheduled flights from December 14, 2016, having by now carried over 6,170,000 passengers on the aircraft.
So far, the Airbus A220 has netted a total of 649 orders, with 159 aircraft delivered - of which 109 are the A220-300 version.
