Jun 10, 2021 (newstodate): Montenegro’s new fully state-owned national carrier, Air Montenegro, is now in the air with its first commercial services.
The first commercial flight was performed today on the route between Podgorica and Belgrade, in Serbia, with the airline's first aircraft, an Embraer E195 taken over from the airline's predecessor, Montenegro Airlines that went bust on December 26, 2020, after accumulating heavy losses.
A second similar aircraft, leased from German Airways, will be delivered on a short-term lease until the delivery of Air Montenegro's second Embraer E195, also sourced from Montenegro Airline's stock.
The coming network to be served by Air Montenegro has yet to be published, but it may comprise flights to Scandinavia as well, as Montenegro Airlines was serving flights to Copenhagen from Podgorica since May 1, 2010, with up to three weekly rotations, planning for resumption of services from Mid-August 2020, with two weekly rotations using Embraer E195 aircraft - which did not materialize as the Covid-19 struck.
So far, the destination closest to Scandinavia will be Frankfurt, to be served from July 15, 2021.
