Jun 18, 2021 (newstodate): The Norwegian seafood export industries are watching Avinor's next move towards securing an efficient infrastructure at Oslo Airport.
Stakeholders in Norway's seafood exports had until October 30, 2020, to respond to Avinor's call for views on plans for a new seafood export infrastructure at Oslo Airport - and one item topped the list: a "Cool Hotel" to provide for temporary safe and temperature-controlled storage of seafood shipments prior to uplift.
-We are now awaiting a new initiative from Avinor calling for concrete inputs on establishing a Cool Hotel, says Roy Egil Skredderberget, OSCC CEO, who has from early days been a strong advocate for the project.
-OSCC is dedicated to this project and can hardly wait to see the process moving ahead. Our vision is a neutral facility established in cooperation between the two handling terminals at Oslo Airport, GPC and OSCC, jointly investing in building and operating the Cool Hotel.
-The facility will be open to all parties in the seafood logistics industry and relieve pressure on the existing terminals that today have to store finished pallets alongside the production line at facilities that are congested during peak hours on specific days of the week.
-Our current problem is exacerbated by the fact that most of the export is flown out on freighters and all-cargo aircraft on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, creating a most uneven pressure on the packed terminals.
-This is further stressed by the lack of belly cargo leveling the imbalance in capacity over the week, as the traffic by passenger aircraft is still slow in returning after the Covid-19 pandemic.
-We hope for Avinor to speed up the process and are fully prepared to move on our side to realize the Cool Hotel as soon as possible, says Mr Skredderberget.
