Jun 03, 2021 (newstodate): In normal times operating hi-class VIP flights with fancy air hostesses in the cabin, the Lithuanian carrier KlasJet has diversified its service portfolio significantly in times of Covid-19 distress.
One example is a recent repatriation flight to bring a group of Covid-19 positive workers from Ghana to South Korea.
Spanning five days, the operation required 10 flights including aircraft repositioning, overflight permissions from 14 countries on three continents, crew positioning and safe accommodation, and Covid testing.
KlasJet operated one of its Boeing 737-500 aircraft, specially compartmentalized to separate passengers, crew, and onboard medical staff from spreading the virus.
KlasJet also added cargo flights to its portfolio, adding one Boeing 737-300 converted freighter in May 2020 on a one-year lease contract with Iceland's cargo ACMI and charter airline Bluebird Nordic, both airlines members of the Avia Solutions Group.
The airline has now handed back the freighter aircraft, ending its cargo operation after performing 271 flights to 48 airports in 30 countries, lifting over 1,000 tonnes of cargo during the one-year period.
