Jun 11, 2021 (newstodate): According to Finnair's CEO Topi Manner, the airline is today operating at only 15 percent of its total capacity, expecting to return to pre-Covid levels only in 2023.
In an interview with CAPA Live, Mr Manner also disclosed that the airline is today operating to only some 60 destinations with low frequencies, compared to 2019 when 130 destinations were on the schedule.
-Long-haul operations are particularly supported by cargo demand, and about 50 percent of Finnair's current net sales come from air cargo. Before the pandemic, the proportion was seven percent.
-Finnair expects cargo to account for a larger share of net sales even after the pandemic, Mr Manner said.
During January-May 2021, Finnair cargo transported a total of 34,099 tonnes, including 3,011 tonnes on scheduled flights and 21,089 tonnes on all-cargo operations.
In 2020, Finnair lifted a total of 71,733 tonnes, of which 26,036 tonnes were transported on all-cargo flights.
