Jun 30, 2021 (newstodate): Finnair has seen good results from its all-cargo flights during the Covid-19 pandemic - and intends to keep this business running as the pandemic is on the retreat.
-Finnair Cargo has during the pandemic operated scheduled Cargo-only flights as well, also adding additional flights per demand – some even with quite short notice. This model has been working well and reliably, being key for our customers, says Fredrik Wildtgrube, Finnair Cargo Head of Global Sales.
-As global vaccination coverage improves, there are signs that we are moving outwards from the pandemic. This does not mean that cargo-only operations are going away; we are continuously engaging with our customers to help them with solutions as long as there is demand and flights remain profitable.
-This has been our approach into the pandemic and will be present during and post-pandemic as well. We want to move into a new normal together; this is of the highest importance, says Mr Wildtgrube.
The carrier performed its first all-cargo flight on March 28, 2020, with an Airbus A350-900 passenger aircraft between Helsinki and Seoul, while on March 28, 2021, the number of all-cargo flights rounded 1,800 operations generating over half of the carrier's net sales, compared to only seven percent prior to the coronavirus.
In 2020, Finnair lifted a total of 71,733 tonnes, of which 26,036 tonnes were transported on all-cargo flights.
