Jun 25, 2021 (newstodate): The Estonian airline Nordica seems to be targeting new business in Ireland.
The demise of the Irish carrier Stobart Air has left a vacuum in domestic Irish air services between Dublin and Donegal and Kerry that are provided under a public service obligation contract running till January 31, 2022.
According to Irish Times, Dublin Airport long doubted Stobart Air's ability to maintain the services, initialing dialogue with various alternative providers, including also Nordica.
Since the start of this year, Nordica is a real airline with an own AOC and one CRJ900 aircraft as a precondition for obtaining an own IATA code and implementation of its own Amadeus commercial platform replacing LOT Polish Airlines' platform used since November 18, 2016.
Nordica's subsidiary, the capacity provider Xfly was operating 20 aircraft including six ATR 42/72 and 14 CRJ 700/9800 before the Covid-19; today, Xfly is down to a modest fleet of five ATR72 and three CJR900 aircraft in addition to six parked aircraft.
Beside its home turf at Tallinn and bases at Copenhagen and Aarhus, the company will soon open a new base in Vilnius to serve a yet-undisclosed airline customer under an ACMI contract.
