Jun 10, 2021 (newstodate): Azerbaijan's Silk Way West Airlines reports sound business lifting Norwegian seafood out of Oslo Airport.
According to its latest update on LinkedIn, the carrier has transported some 10,000 tonnes of seafood since its first operations in 2019, and in 2020 alone the volume was 6,060 tonnes according to Avinor statistics.
Silk Way West Airlines performed its first test flight into Oslo on September 28, 2019, operating a Boeing 747-400F from Amsterdam into Oslo Airport and continuing via Baku to Tianjin, China, as a one-off, fully-booked charter flight.
Scheduled services were then launched from October 11, 2019, with one, later two, weekly flights from Oslo with transfer to onward flights on the carrier's network of seafood shipments after temporary storage at Silk Way West Airlines' cooling facilities at Baku Airport.
At Oslo Airport, terminal and ramp handling of Silk Way West Airlines is provided by Oslo Seafood & Cargo Center AS, and the carrier's representative for the Nordics is Aviation Plus or Kales Aviation Services.
