Jun 22, 2021 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic saw passenger volumes in May 2021 up by 447 percent, y-o-y, to 67,300.
While clearly documenting a sound recovery after the disastrous corona-year 2020 where all scheduled international flights were suspended at Riga Airport since March 17, 2020, the carrier still has a long way to go to reach, or exceed, the levels of activity in 2019, before the coronavirus struck.
Increasing by 22 percent, y-o-y, in May 2019, the carrier transported a total of 470,025 passengers - and May 2021 is thus still down 86 percent.
In May 2021, the carrier performed 1,310 flights with a passenger load factor at 76 percent, compared to 5,787 flights in May 2019 - but only 240 flights in May 2020, when no details on load factors have been published.
In the meantime, the aircraft fleet has increased from 18 Airbus A220-300 in May 2019, to 23 aircraft in May 2020 - and to 26 aircraft in May 2021.
