May 05, 2021 (newstodate): Steep growth in the Danish export market now drives Turkish Cargo to introduce a third freighter frequency at Billund Airport.
Starting from Friday, May 7, 2021, Turkish Cargo will thus be operating dedicated freighters between Istanbul and Billund on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
With the new Friday flight, Turkish Cargo will add another 35 tonnes of capacity on its Airbus A310 to the market.
-Invariably operating at full loads, we have repeatedly been forced to request extra capacity from Istanbul to meet rising demands in the market; so eventually the company decided instead to add a third scheduled flight, which is certainly a proof of our dedication to the Danish and Scandinavian markets, says Cem Kavas, Turkish Airlines Regional Cargo Manager Denmark.
-We are seeing sustained growth on the import side as well, while still below export levels. But instead we offer capacity to supporting the company's customers in the North German market that is easily reached by trucking services from Billund Airport. These shipments primarily consist of textiles from Asian production sites exported to German customers - and this is a growing business as well, supporting our freighter operations at Billund Airport.
-We are almost alone in serving the market with freighter operations as most competitors rely on belly cargo products on passenger flights now suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic. We cannot foresee how the situation will develop as passenger flights return - but with three weekly freighters at Billund Airport we are in a firm position as most customers prefer direct and easy access to scheduled capacity at a nearby and well-functioning airport, says Mr Kavas.
Turkish Airlines Cargo launched operations between Istanbul and Billund on April 10, 2016, with one weekly, adding a second frequency from early November 2016.
