May 19, 2021 (newstodate): Since April 22, 2021, Qatar Airways Cargo has moved its freighter operations to Bodo Airport from Evenes Airport that started a runway refurbishment project due to be completed by July 14, 2021.
Today, Bodo Airport is thus served twice-weekly by Qatar Airways with Boeing 777-300 all-cargo passenger aircraft flying in from various other European airports to Bodo and proceeding to Doha for onward flights by Qatar Airways to Asian destinations including South Korea, Bangkok and Singapore.
Occasionally, Qatar Airways Cargo has even added extra flights between Doha and Bodo, as was the case for instance in week 18 that saw all-cargo flights on May 4, 5, and 6, with one Boeing 787-8 aircraft added to the service.
-Our uplift from Bodo Airport is above expectations, and we are pleased to support businesses from the region with direct capacity to Asia, Middle East and Africa via Doha. Based on our customers' demands, if there is a requirement for a third frequency, we will definitely consider it, says Tiphaine Guelou, Qatar Airways Cargo spokesperson.
-All flights to the North of Norway operate via one of Qatar Airways Cargo's hubs in Europe; flights operating to Oslo also carry imports for the Norwegian market, which we have been operating for many years now.
-Currently, we are not carrying imports to Bodo Airport, but when market requests capacity and if there is demand for imports into Bodo, we will start securing approvals and support our customers, says Ms Guelou.
It remains to be seen if Qatar Airways Cargo will leave Bodo Airport again when runway works at Evenes Airport are completed - or if both destinations will be served, in addition to the freighter operations at Oslo Airport since January 2013.
Handling the seafood cargo at Bodo Airport is Widerøe Ground Handling that has played a crucial role in developing the project from the start by building the infrastructure and providing the GSE required for the operation.
