May 07, 2021 (newstodate): Norwegian Air Argentina's three remaining Boeing 737-800 aircraft are now finally back in Europe.
A first Boeing 737-800 aircraft was returned to is lessor already some time ago, and the three remaining aircraft were ferried from Argentina via Natal Int'l Airport in Brazil and on to Europe via a technical landing at Las Palmas, the Canary Islands, on May 5, 2021.
Norwegian Air Argentina was set up in January 2017 with lofty ambitions to operate from Buenos Aires to a number of US and European destinations, including flights to Copenhagen, Denmark, and international flights from other Argentinian airports, as well as domestic flights between 12 Argentinian destinations.
Starting out with basing six Boeing 737 aircraft with the Argentinian subsidiary, plans were to expand the fleet to 11 Boeing 737 and four Boeing 787 aircraft within the first year of operations - but it all crashed in November 2019 as the company was sold to JetSmart Argentina, owned by Indigo Partners, that has been operating the aircraft on a lease contract.
Sources in the industry claim that talks are underway for Jet2 to take over the three ex-Argentinian Boeing 737-800 aircraft from the owner.
