May 05, 2021 (newstodate): The new low-cost airline under formation in Norway, Flyr has picked Menzies as provider of ground handling at its home base, Oslo Airport.
Aviator Airport Alliance will provide Flyr with ground handling services at Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Tromso and Bodo, Wideroe Ground Handling will be handling Flyr at Stavanger Evenes.
Flyr expects to see its first Boeing 737-800 aircraft landing in Oslo Airport by early May 2021, and the airline has set July 1, 2021, as the date for its first flight on the route between Oslo and Tromso, in northern Norway.
The company now has 45 employees with solid experience from Norwegian aviation and will have about 350 employees by the end of the year, while the aircraft fleet will grow to eight leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft in the first phase, providing flights from Oslo to 12 destinations including five outside Norway, with Copenhagen on the list.
In a second phase, the fleet will be increased to 20 aircraft serving a network of 23 destinations, now also including Stockholm; and in a phase 3 the fleet will contain up to 28-30 aircraft with flights also from Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim and serving a network adding flights also to the three Baltic states.
