May 26, 2021 (newstodate): Icelandair has now taken in two ex-factory Boeing 737 MAX aircraft as part of the renegotiated deal with the aircraft manufacturer.
The two aircraft - one Boeing 737 MAX 8 and one Boeing 737 MAX 9 -are now at the home turf in Iceland since May 24, 2021, and the remaining aircraft slated for delivery in 2021 will arrive later this week from Seattle, bringing the airline's fleet to nine, including six MAX 8 aircraft and three MAX 9 aircraft.
Icelandair started operating its first three Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft in 2018, and delivery of six more was planned for 2019; seven Boeing 737 MAX aircraft would be added in 2020 and 2021, bringing the fleet to a total of 16 of this type.
In the meantime, Icelandair renegotiated its contract with Boeing, and the carrier's fleet will eventually comprise only 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Now, the last three Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will be delivered by the end of 2022.
