May 21, 2021 (newstodate): The Covid-19 dealt a heavy blow to Latvia's Riga Airport in 2020.
Riga International Airport thus closed the year 2020 with a loss of 15.85 million euros, according to the company's published audited annual report for 2020.
Last year, the airport handled 2.01 million passengers, down 74 percent, y-o-y; the number of serviced flights also declined by 59 percent.
However, Riga Airport still maintained its position as the largest airport in the Baltic countries, with a 43 percent market share of the total number of passengers served in the Baltics.
Lithuanian airports thus generated 39 percent of the Baltic pax volumes, while Estonia's Tallinn Airport generated 18 percent of the total.
In 2020, Riga Airport also handled 44 percent of the air cargo in the Baltic market, with Lithuanian airports handling 38 and Estonia's Tallinn Airport the remaining 18 percent of the total volumes.
