May 20, 2021 (newstodate): Despite the shortfall of traffic and passengers in 2020, Air Greenland closed the year with results in the black.
The plummeting revenues from the passenger traffic as commercial flights were halted were compensated by a contract with Greenland's government for provision of crucial non-commercial air services between Greenland and Denmark, as well as renewed long-term contracts with the Danish Ministry of Defense for provision of SAR, and a service contract running for 10 years.
Backed by these contracts, Air Greenland has been able to sign purchase contracts for two H225 helicopters and six H155 helicopters in addition to the contract for one new Airbus A330-800 aircraft to provide Transatlantic services to Copenhagen, slated for delivery by the end of 2022, replacing the current aging Airbus A330-200.
The positive outcome of 2020 was however also facilitated by a reduction in the airline's workforce by some 20 percent and drastic cuts in costs.
