May 10, 2021 (newstodate): Delivering 700,000 liters of fuel by air to Greenland is a critical operation performed annually to keep the Danish military post at Station Nord operative.
A military and scientific station in northeastern Greenland, 1,700 km north of the Arctic Circle and only 924 km from the North Pole, Station Nord is accessible with a 1,800 m unpaved natural runway requiring unique aircraft capabilities and calling for special operational competencies.
Flights are thus provided by one of the Royal Danish Air Forces' four C-130J Hercules that recently completed this year's mission comprising some 40 rotations from the RDAF base at Aalborg, equipped with two extra tanks to deliver up to 19,000 liters of fuel per flight.
