Apr 16, 2021 (newstodate): Now it's a fact: Virgin Atlantic Cargo is staying at Evenes Airport despite the partial and temporary shortening of the runway.
The operation in cooperation with Kuhne + Nagel is thus continuing its two weekly all-cargo flights launched on February 3, 2021, from Evenes to London Heathrow using Boeing 787-9 aircraft to lift some 45 tonnes of seafood belly cargo into Virgin's route network in London, with onward transfer to the US market.
Also Operating at Evenes Airport from December 14, 2020, Qatar Airways Cargo will move its weekly Boeing 777-300 all-cargo flight at Evenes to Bodo Airport from April 22, 2021, while it remains unclear if the carrier will move back to Evenes again after completion on July 14, 2021, of the runway refurbishment project.
During the period April 22-July 14, 2021, the shortened runway will not allow operations with large and fully loaded aircraft like a Boeing 777-300, while the smaller Boeing 787-9 aircraft will be able to continue operations without limitations during the construction period.
