Apr 13, 2021 (newstodate): Operating at Evenes Airport since February 3, 2021, Virgin Atlantic Cargo is considering its options as the airport starts its runway project from April 20, 2021.
As the project will entail a reduction in the runway length during the period till July 14, 2021, flights will be operated with a slightly lower cargo payload.
-At this moment we have still not made a decision, but operations will not be moved to Bodo Airport, as Qatar Airways has announced on their part, says Dennis Verkooy, Kuehne + Nagel SVP Global Perishables & Head of Carrier Management Air Logistics.
In cooperation with Kuehne & Nagel Norway, Virgin Atlantic launched two weekly flights from Evenes to London Heathrow using Boeing 787-9 aircraft to lift some 45 tonnes of seafood belly cargo into Virgin's route network in London, with onward transfer to the US market.
Operating at Evenes Airport from December 14, 2020, Qatar Airways Cargo has already decided to move its weekly Boeing 777-300 all-cargo flight at Evenes to Bodo Airport from April 22, 2021, while it remains unclear if the carrier will move back to Evenes again after completion of the runway refurbishment project.
