Apr 13, 2021 (newstodate): The markets will have to wait longer for a resumption of Scandinavian services by Pakistan International Airlines.
Earlier slated to start up again in this summer's schedule, the carrier has removed the restart of services on several European routes, including the once-weekly route from Islamabad to Oslo, continuing to Copenhagen, and finally returning to Lahore, in Pakistan.
So far, plans are now to open up again only from October 2021, by the start of the winter 2021/22 schedule.
With effect from July 1, 2020, EASA, the European Air Safety Agency banned Pakistan International Airlines from flights into the airspace of its member states.
The ban would initially be in effect for six months, but the Covid-19 pandemic later forced the repeated suspensions of flights on international routes.
EASA's decision was based on the airline's lack of compliance with international standards for certifying and overseeing its operators and aircraft.
The ban was announced less than a week after Pakistan's Aviation Minister alleged in Parliament that a third of the state carrier's pilots possessed fake or “dubious” licenses, and came after the fatal accident by flight PK8303 on May 22, 2020, that cost 97 lives.
