Apr 14, 2021 (newstodate): March 2021 proved a turning point in cargo volumes at Latvia's Riga Airport.
After two bleak months, the airport noted a rise in March 2021 by 49.5 percent, y-o-y, in cargo volumes, landing at a total of 2,283 tonnes including 1,640 tonnes of cargo and 642 tonnes of mail.
During this year's Q1, the airport has thus been handling a total of 5,707 tonnes of cargo, including 3,895 tonnes of cargo shipments and 1,812 tonnes of mail - securing a return to growth by 1.5 percent, y-o-y.
Compared to February 2021, cargo volumes in March were up by no less than 62.5 percent, while mail volumes grew by 30.8 percent.
The increase in volumes is attributed to a strong growth in Chinese cargo imports on flights by Atran, Rossiya, Aviastar TU, and integrator shipments, as well as a general uptick in volumes of passenger flight movements bringing more belly capacity to Riga Airport.
