Apr 9, 2021 (newstodate): Boeing is experiencing new production problems with the Boeing 737 MAX series aircraft, seeing several airlines grounding their fleets temporarily.
As the only Nordic airline currently operating the aircraft type, Icelandair earlier confirmed that it is not affected by the finding of inadequate grounding of a backup electrical power control unit supporting a rack on the flight deck on certain aircraft.
This does not hold, it turns out..
One of the three Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in service with the carrier today has been taken out of production as a precautionary measure and now awaits detailed recommendation from Boeing and the FAA on how to fix the problem.
The other two Boeing 737 MAX aircraft operated by Icelandair belong to an earlier production batch that does not have the same wiring problem detected.
With the first reentry into commercial service of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft on March 8, 2021, after some 20 months of grounding, the carrier is now operating two aircraft of the type.
