Apr 26, 2021 (newstodate): Boding well for an expected rebound in air traffic, Finavia is reopening Runway 1 at Helsinki Airport from April 30, 2021.
The runway was closed from November 1, 2019, as the coronavirus hit the world and the air traffic, bringing the volume of movements down to only 25 percent of its pre-Covid 19 levels at Helsinki Airport.
This winter saw only some 100–150 takeoffs and landings per day, compared to the normal volume of over 500 daily operations.
Finnair is now preparing to grow its summer 2021 flight schedule with a focus on leisure destinations, as the vaccine roll-out is expected to enable the reopening of travel in many countries.
In June, Finnair will resume flights to destinations like Reykjavik, Bodo, Nice, Lisbon and Vilnius.
Additional frequencies will also be added to Greek islands such as Rhodes, Chania and Santorini, as well as to Mallorca, Malaga and Alicante in Spain.
Finnair’s summer destinations in Italy include Rome, Milan and Venice.
