Apr 15, 2021 (newstodate): Sweden's Taby Air Maintenance, TAM has delivered one more SAB 340 cargo conversion.
In March 2021, the UK carrier VL Aviation based at Brish Midlands has received its second Saab 340B aircraft leased from Jetstream Aviation Capital after conversion at TAM's facilities.
The aircraft traces its history from first operator Salenia in Sweden from January 1991 through a list of subsequent airlines ending up with Nyxair from June 2020 before being acquired by VL Aviation for conversion into cargo aircraft as the airline's second of the type in the fleet since January 2021.
TAM is seeing an expanding market for conversion to freighters of SAAB 340 passenger aircraft, earlier forecasting the conversion of some 4-6 SAAB 340 aircraft in 2021, but now expecting to deliver instead 6-8 aircraft this year as the demand for smaller cargo aircraft as a feeder platform for express cargo carriers as well as other short-haul cargo operators is growing.
TAM was the first company worldwide to be approved by the US Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, as well as the European Aviation Safety Authority, EASA, to perform a full cargo conversion of Saab 340A and Saab 340B aircraft.
