Apr 29, 2021 (newstodate): With effect from January 1, 2022 , the Latvian carrier airBaltic will implement own passenger handling at Riga Airport.
The years-long cooperation with the Turkish handling company HAVAS at Riga Airport is thus coming to an end.
Originally, airBaltic was served at Riga Airport by North Hub Services established in 2009 by Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas owned by Bertolt Flick, who was then president, CEO and co-owner of airBaltic.
On April 12, 2010, the HAVAS bought 50 percent of the shares in North Hub Services, taking over the handling contract that has now come to an end.
The change in passenger handling at Riga Airport is a part of airBaltic's cost improvement program of the airline, which will simplify its business and operations while enabling airBaltic to re-employ part of its former employees.
On the ground handling side, RIX Ground Handling, an operational department of Riga International Airport, will provide ramp-handling services to airBaltic under a contract signed for five years, also replacing the setup with HAVAS.
