Mar 26, 2021 (newstodate): Managing the country's three international airports, Lithuanian Airports Plc has run into an unexpected problem with the project for construction of a new passenger terminal at Vilnius Airport.
Among seven participants, the Lithuanian construction company Mitnija won the tender in August 2020 for a new passenger terminal at Vilnius Airport.
The coming new 14,400 sq m two-story terminal will raise the airport's passenger handling capacity from today's 900 to 2,400 passengers per hour as it launches operations from 2022.
Mitnija has, however, been brought down by the coronavirus and national restrictions, causing the abrogation on March 23, 2021, of the contract.
As a result, LTOU is now to open a new international public procurement tender to find a new company to carry through with the project, hoping to sign a contract with a winning firm before the end of this year.
