Mar 08, 2021 (newstodate): The seafood freighter operations at Norway's Evenes Airport are doing well - but some at least temporary changes are on the horizon..
Operating twice-weekly all-cargo flights at the airport is Qatar Airways Cargo since December 14, 2020, flying in with Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft to lift 50 tonnes of seafood to Doha for transfer on Qatar Airways' flights to destinations in Asia.
Next, Virgin Atlantic Cargo commenced scheduled all-cargo flights on February 3, 2021, offering two weekly rotations between London Heathrow and Evenes Airport with Boeing 787-9 aircraft adding 100 tonnes of capacity per week, primarily to serve the Norwegian seafood exporters with onward transfer to the US market.
Now, Avinor is to renovate one taxiway at Evenes Airport, temporarily reducing the capacity for a three months period.
This will force Qatar Airways Cargo to suspend its all-cargo services at the airport as the remaining capacity will be inadequate for Boeing 777 operations.
The limitations will not, however, effect Virgin Atlantic's operations that are scheduled to continue unabated.
