Mar 12, 2021 (newstodate): What will happen to Qatar Airways' all-cargo service at Norway's Harstad-Narvik Airport at Evenes after April 22, 2021?
Avinor has announced the start of runway construction works to install arresting gear which will change the runway configuration.
During the period April 22-July 14, 2021, the shortened runway will thus not allow operations with large and fully loaded aircraft like Qatar Airways' Boeing 777-300, while the smaller Boeing 787-9 aircraft operated by Virgin Atlantic will probably be able to continue operations without limitations during the construction period.
Both airline operations serve seafood exporters in the northern region with uplift to the global marketplace, with Qatar Airways starting from December 14, 2020, and Virgin Atlantic following suit from February 3, 2021.
So the issue if where Qatar Airways will go when the construction at Evenes Airport commences - and whether the carrier will return after completion of the work.
-We are investigating and will soon revert, says Danny Robbeson, Qatar Airways Manager Cargo Nordics & Baltics, upon newstodate's inquiry.
