Mar 17, 2021 (newstodate): Following an open competition with 10 applicants, Latvia's Ministry of Transport has named a new Director of the Aviation Department: Arturs Kokars.
Mr Kokars will take over his new assignment from April 1, 2021, leaving his current position since January 2016 as CEO at the Latvian Aviation Association.
Arthur Kokars thus succeeds Arnis Muiznieks, in the office for 25 years until retirement by the end of 2020.
A key personality in Latvia's aviation and airport business, Mr Kokars has served in various Board-related capacities with Riga International Airport from February 2013-December 2020, including a period as Director of Strategic Development, and prior to that with HAVAS Europe/North Hub Services for three years as Procurement and Logistics Manager, 2010-13.
The main responsibilities of the Aviation Department of the Ministry of Transport comprise the development and implementation of the aviation sector development strategy, development of legal acts and national policy planning documents, coordination of the supervised institutions, representation of state interests in international aviation organizations and European Union institutions.
