Mar 02, 2021 (newstodate): Aiming at providing air travel services to unite the country, a new privately-owned Libyan airline is slated to perform its first commercial flight on March 4, 2021.
Backed by investments from its largest shareholder, Benghazi-based Trade and Development Bank, Berniq Airways took delivery of its first of three Airbus A320-200 aircraft in October 2020, and received its AOC in February 2021.
With Benghazi's Benina Airport with two 3,600 m runways as its home base, the carrier will build a network knitting the country's western, eastern and southern regions together as one step to unite the country, later adding international flights to destinations in the Middle East and North African markets.
