Mar 04, 2021 (newstodate): First aired in 2014, plans emerged for introducing passenger and cargo services to support the coming Fehmern Bridge project connecting Denmark and Germany.
The project centered on developing a small local airport at Maribo with one 1,200 m asphalt-surfaced runway.
Now, the project has become very much alive as contractors have started building and developing a huge infrastructure at Lolland serving the bridge project.
In parallel, efforts to upgrade and renovate Maribo Airport are now close to completion, pending the final approval of the airport 's EMC status concerning AFIS, Met services and GPS navigation procedures.
This process is slated to be completed after a series of coming tests flights by the Danish CAA and finalization of the pertinent documentation, with hopes for commissioning of the airport by late-summer 2021.
-Once officially approved, we will be able to handle traffic with aircraft seating up to 19 passengers aiming at the need among the international companies involved in the project to move shifts of employees in and out of the area, says Hans Mouszynski, Maribo Airport Manager.
-Besides aiming at the companies involved in the bridge building project, we will of course also be targeting local companies and industries to realize the new business travel opportunities at the renovated Maribo Airport.
-Adding to this we also expect construction companies to generate a need for urgent handling of spares and machinery that can be flown in close to their site at Lolland, says Mr Mouszynski.
