Mar 25, 2021 (newstodate): Lithuanian Airports Plc is keen to boost a revival in traffic at the three airports under its management - Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga.
To this effect Aurimas Stikliunas, LTOU Head of Aviation Services, has presented a series of measures to be implemented to revive and boost the country's air connectivity in 2021.
-According to our diversification strategy, the focus this year is ensuring vital connectivity with major markets and hub airports. We are thus planning to reach 82 routes from all three airports and generate a total of 2.7 mio passengers, Mr Stikliunas says.
-As cooperation with our local partners remains key in establishing new and maintaining existing routes, this year’s program aims at investing 10.6 mio EUR into route development and incentives for air carriers, he says.
Together, the three airports handled 1.8 million people in 2020, down 72 percent less compared to 2019, and 30,000 flights were served at the airports, 52 percent less.
According to the forecasts for 2021, Lithuanian Airports will manage to restore about half of the passenger traffic of 2019.
In 2019, the three airports offered flights on 92 routes, and was down to 72 at its peak in 2020.
