Mar 11, 2021 (newstodate): Icelandair is taking steps to renew its freighter fleet, moving capacity from pax to cargo.
In the fleet are today two Boeing 757-200 freighter aircraft that will be replaced by the conversion of two of four Boeing 767-300ER passenger aircraft currently in the fleet, but grounded during the pandemic.
Conversion of the two Boeing 767-300 aircraft will start in spring 2022, with redelivery slated for September 2022, and the two Boeing 757 freighter will then be retired in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
To facilitate the transaction, Icelandair Group has signed a 10 years sale/lease-back agreement with Titan Aircraft Investments for the two Boeing 767-300ER aircraft to be converted, also freeing cash in times of trouble.
Replacing the Boeing 757-200 with Boeing 767-300 converted aircraft will add some six tonnes of capacity, more pallet positions, and longer flight range.
Icelandair's first Boeing 757 freighter joined the fleet in 1999, with the second delivered in October 2003.
Icelandair's first two Boeing 767 aircraft entered the fleet in May 2016, with the next two aircraft joining in early 2017.
