Mar 24, 2021 (newstodate): Ahead of a turbulent summer 2021 season, Sweden's aviation business struggling to rebound after deep impacts from the Covid-19 will hardly feel comforted by the Swedish government's approach to the industry.
If finally approved, the Swedish state will implement a stern environmental ruling on charges at Swedish airports, based on a range of parameters including aircraft size, age, engine types etc - all aiming at "forcing" airlines to change fleets in compliance with Sweden's political rulings on environmental issues.
If the government's bill is passed by the Parliament, the planned policy will be implemented from July 1, 2021, already, securing Sweden a "leading" role in the EU as for aviation environmental ruling.
In stark contrast to the Swedish approach, Denmark's regulatory body has approved a prolonged and revised airport charges scheme for Copenhagen Airport, offering a better chance for igniting recovery through favorable charges to lure the return of airlines, and a specific program of incitement for certain intercontinental routes securing Copenhagen Airport's hub position in competition to other major Nordic and European airports.
The strategically important routes connect Copenhagen Airport with destinations such as Boston, Los Angeles, Miami, Tokyo, Toronto and New Delhi, operated until the Covid-19 pandemic struck but cancelled since then.
