Mar 17, 2021 (newstodate): All infrastructure is now in place at Bodo Airport for handling of all-cargo operations to lift seafood directly out of northern Norway.
-As planned, the last remaining elements in the infrastructure will be in place by the end of his month, including terminal facilities, in cooperation with Wideroe Ground Handling, says Elnar Remi Holmen, Managing Director at Bodøregionens Utviklingsselskap that is driving the project with stakeholders in the local and regional seafood industry.
-After this, it is up to the industry, including the seafood exporters as well as airlines, to set the launch date of services. But the target remains to see the first operations before the end of this year's second quarter.
-Prior to this, we will make no comments on industrial decisions and agreements. But our focus is to establish this coming new seafood air logistics solution not just to cover needs during the current Covid-19 turbulence, but as a sustainable service with a long-term perspective.
-The global demand for seafood is increasing, and seafood production in our region is seeing strong growth as well - and this calls for close access to direct uplift capacity.
-To provide this, Bodo Airport is an excellent option with one 3,500m runway east and one 2,750m runway west, high regularity and up-time performance.
-So we are ready - and now it's up to the industry to push the button, says Mr Holmen.
