Mar 25, 2021 (newstodate): With the first flight on September 1, 2021, the Latvian carrier is back into the Gulf region with flights from Riga.
The new route will be operated with Airbus A220-300 aircraft with four weekly rotations.
airBaltic is thus returning to the Emirates, having replaced Abu Dhabi with Dubai.
On December 16, 2013, airBaltic launched flights four times weekly on the route between Riga and Abu Dhabi using a leased Airbus A319 aircraft. This operation proved unprofitable for airBaltic, and only the introduction of the Airbus A220-300 made a resumption of services feasible.
The route between Riga and Abu Dhabi was reopened on October 29, 2017, served by airBaltic with four weekly rotations between the two destinations under a code-share agreement with Etihad Airways during the winter schedule.
It has still not been announced if the move of the route to Dubai will be code-shared with another airline partner.
-Currently, potential code share partnerships are still under evaluation for the United Arab Emirates market, says airBaltic's communications department.
