Mar 03, 2021 (newstodate): Billund Airport has seen a significant rise in full-charter ad-hoc operations in 2020.
In 2019, the airport handled eight full-freighters including three import and five export freighter flights; but the ad-hoc activities increased dramatically in 2020, not least driven by the traffic in connection with the Covid-19 pandemic.
By August 2020, the airport had been handling 48 all-cargo ad-hoc flights, including 28 on the import and 20 on the export side, carrying PPE, perishables and industrial shipments.
2020 actually ended with a total of 69 ad-hoc charter operations at Billund Airport carrying PPE but also other commodities including live animals and machinery.
The development seems to be continuing in 2021 that has seen so far seven all-cargo charter operations at Billund Airport that is planning for another eight to 10 operations this month.
-Based on these trends, we may well end up with all-cargo charter operations on the same level as, or even surpassing the volume in 2020, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport VP Cargo.
Latest cargo statistics from Billund Airport show an increase in volumes handled in February 2021 up by 4.2 percent, y-o-y, with a rise in both import and export volumes
