Feb 04, 2021 (newstodate): From May 20, 2021, Wizz Air will open a new base at Sarajevo, in Bosnia-Herzegovina, with new flights to Scandinavia.
Basing one Airbus A320 aircraft in Sarajevo will allow the carrier to launch flights to nine destinations including Copenhagen and Gothenburg.
The route from Sarajevo to Copenhagen will be served three times weekly, while Gothenburg will see Wizz Air from Sarajevo two times weekly.
Over time, many efforts have been made to secure traffic on the route between Sarajevo and Copenhagen, including airlines like SAS that last operated the route during the S-18 schedule only, and Norwegian with flights during the S-19 schedule to Sarajevo from four airports in Scandinavia - Copenhagen, Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg and Oslo.
During the early 2000s, SAS' low-cost adventure Snowflake operated on the route for one season only; in 2004 a new Bosnian airline, Arnoro planned to start operations from June 11 from Sarajevo via Banjaluka to Copenhagen, Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Oslo; in 2009, BH Airlines planned to open flights from Sarajevo to Copenhagen, Denmark, offering two weekly rotations, adding flights from May 13, 2009, to Gothenburg, Sweden.
Today, Wizz Air is poised to be alone in the air between Sarajevo and Copenhagen, Gothenburg..
