Feb 24, 2021 (newstodate): Denmark's Billund Airport is welcoming news from Turkish Airlines concerning resumption of services - and the addition of a 2nd destination in Turkey.
Pending the unlocking of the markets, Turkish Airlines is thus reopening flights on the route between Billund and Istanbul, expectedly offering daily flights during the summer 2021 schedule that will also see the opening of fights on a new route connecting Billund and Gazipasa-Alanya Airport close to the southern leisure regions in Turkey.
The flights on the route to Gazipasa-Alanya will open with a weekly rotation starting from June 17, 2021 - again depending on the Covid-19 situation.
Turkish Airlines started out with a triangular operation in June 2012 with three flights on the route Istanbul-Aalborg-Billund-Istanbul, going up to five weekly rotations from spring 2014.
The schedule was extended to daily flights from June 28, 2015, when the carrier replaced the triangular flights by direct flights between Istanbul and the two Danish destinations - and pulled out from serving Aalborg from October 30, 2016.
In addition to the passenger operations, Turkish Airlines Cargo is operating a twice-weekly freighter service at Billund Airport since April 10, 2016.
