Feb 12, 2021 (newstodate): The two airlines operating new all-cargo flights at Norway's Evenes Airport report high loads of seafood.
First, Qatar Airways Cargo reported a new world record on February 8, 202, by lifting no less than 68,944 kg fresh salmon on its Boeing 777-300 aircraft via Doha to Asian destinations.
The carrier launched services with the first flight on December 14, 2020, flying in with Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft to lift 50 tonnes of seafood to Doha for transfer on Qatar Airways flights to destinations in Asia - and now surpassing the budgeted loads.
The second newcomer at Evenes Airport is Virgin Atlantic Cargo that officially commenced scheduled all-cargo flights on February 3, 2021, after a series of test flights.
The carrier is now offering two weekly rotations between London Heathrow and Evenes Airport with Boeing 787-9 aircraft adding 100 tonnes of capacity per week, primarily to serve the Norwegian seafood exporters with onward transfer to the US market.
And Virgin Atlantic Cargo is equally upbeat about the performance on the new route, reporting the uplift on a single flight this week of 54 tonnes of seafood from Evenes to via London Heathrow to Boston, New York and Los Angeles - also surpassing the budgeted goal.
