Feb 11, 2021 (newstodate): Desperately fighting to keep its commercial aviation in the air, Iran is finding ways to import aircraft despite harsh US sanctions.
Iranian media now reports that the country has managed to acquire and import eight western-built aircraft, manufactured in 2004-5 and still awaiting final operational permits from Iran's CAA.
The media also says that 16 more commercial aircraft will be imported before the end of April this year.
The aircraft are said to have been acquired directly by Iranian companies without state intervention, but no details on aircraft types have been released.
Earlier, Iranian airlines have managed to acquire western-built aircraft through intermediaries, by-passing the sanctions.
