Feb 02, 2021 (newstodate): After only nine months, the state-owned plc Lithuanian Airports will have to look for a new Chairman of the Board.
Taking up the position with effect from May 30, 2020, Arijandas Sliupas has announced his decision to resign to the Lithuanian Minister of Transport and Communications.
-I will admit that the decision is difficult, because I have been working in the logistics and aviation sector in Lithuania and in the international arena for more than 20 years, so I know that deep expertise, willingness to work, appetite for results and continuity are the only guarantees of success in aviation, especially during Covid-19.
-However, I always support the smooth running of the state, so I am not going to and do not want to be an obstacle, Mr Sliupas writes on his LinkedIn profile.
Over the phone, Mr Sliupas confirms his decision but declines to dig deeper into the underlying reasons for his resignation.
-We have had a recent change of government in Lithuania, and it is of course up to the new Minister to make decisions and work with people sharing his ideas, says Mr Sliupas.
-Let me conclude by adding that I stand for de-politization of airport management!
Among the many highlights of Mr Sliupas' career in the aviation business so far is a term of four years as Vice-Minister of Transport and Communication, 2012-1016.
During his time as Vice-Minister, plans were worked out for tendering a concession to manage the three airports at Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, with the successful concessionaire to take on the responsibility for the commercial development of the airports from January 1, 2017.
These plans were, however, soon aborted as a new parliament was elected.
