Feb 05, 2021 (newstodate): Finnair opened the year with 5,243 tonnes of cargo carried in January.
This was down 58.6 percent on last year's January when Finnair lifted a total of 12,661 tonnes of cargo - an increase by 5.6 percent, y-o-y.
Over half, or 2,841 tonnes, of the cargo in January 2021 was transported on all-cargo flights as the passenger traffic is still very limited with most markets in a sustained lock-down.
No flights were performed across the Atlantic, and loads on the Asian flights were down 75.8 percent to 2,139 tonnes; European cargo dropped 91.7 percent to a mere 236 tonnes.
Strong demand for the cargo capacity especially in Asia continued, and as a result the cargo load factor was clearly higher than in the corresponding period of 2020.
Finnair ended year 2020 with a drop by 58.6 percent, y-o-y, in full-year cargo volumes at 71,733 tonnes.
