Feb 23, 2021 (newstodate): Airport business has not been plain sailing in 2020, but despite a deep shortfall in passenger operations Copenhagen Airport has managed to keep its cargo flowing at fair levels.
-First, the integrator traffic at Copenhagen Airport has remained unaffected by the industrial downturn due to the Covid-19, even managing to grow in volumes, says Lars Gotfredsen, Copenhagen Airport Cargo Manager.
-Secondly, despite the fact that belly cargo has always been the mainstay of our cargo business, all-cargo operations have seen a sound development with airlines including SAS, Thai, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Qatar and several others, keeping cargo traffic flowing.
-Summing up, Copenhagen Airport now handles some 50-55 wide-body aircraft per week, scheduled and ad-hoc operations included. And the volumes are there, as documented by the latest Customs statistics showing Denmark's total import/export volumes only 1.5-2 percent down in 2020.
-One key segment highlighting the importance of Copenhagen Airport for the entire Oresund region is the pharmaceutical industries that are greatly supported by the two handling providers at the airport, Spirit Air Cargo Handling and WFS, both certified as to GDP and CEIV standards.
-So yes, we are facing challenges as all other airports, but so far we have managed to keep some 70-80 percent of our "normal" cargo volumes, which is not that bad after all, says Mr Gotfredsen.
