Feb 17, 2021 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic prefers building a strong system of code-share agreements, rather than joining airline alliances.
-I see no benefits from airBaltic joining any of the airline alliances, Martin Gauss, airBaltic CEO, told newstodate in an interview in September 2013.
-Instead, airBaltic is pinning its cooperation with other airlines on code-share agreements. We have a large and ever-growing number of code-share partners that add their prefixes to our flights, irrespective of their own alliance affiliations. And what is even more important: we operate the routes!
The latest addition to the list of code-share partners with airBaltic will be Lufthansa from March 28, 2021, adding the LH code to routes operated by airBaltic between Munich and Riga, Latvia as well as Munich and Vilnius, Lithuania.
The agreement thus does not cover flights between Munich and Tallinn, in Estonia, operated by Lufthansa reopened on November 2, 2019, after a pause.
Adding Lufthansa that has long been an interline partner takes the list of BT code-share partners to 24.
