Feb 19, 2021 (newstodate): SAS is preparing to take delivery of its fifth Airbus A350-900 aircraft later this spring.
The aircraft performed its first flight on February 17, 2021, and is now undergoing a series of tests prior to the customer acceptance flight marking its transfer to SAS.
In October 2014, SAS firmed up its MoU signed in June 2013 with Airbus for eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with options for a further six aircraft.
According to the MoU, SAS would take delivery of its first of eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft in 2018, but the delivery scheme was adjusted in 2016 as a consequence of the airline's financial problems at the time.
Under the revised schedule, SAS took delivery of its first Airbus A350 on November 11, 2019, followed by deliveries of the second and third aircraft by spring 2020, and the fourth aircraft in July 2020.
The remaining four aircraft on firm orders should then be delivered in 2021 - but the delivery plan was adjusted again in August 2020, postponing by one year two of the remaining four aircraft deliveries till 2022.
