Dec 17, 2021 (newstodate): Work on the coming new WFS cargo terminal 3 at Copenhagen Airport is moving ahead as planned, aiming at commissioning by September 2022.
-Actually, we are even slightly ahead of schedule, thanks also to favorable weather conditions, says Thomas Egeland, WFS Director Scandinavia since October 5, 2020.
This year, WFS started the design and construction of a new Terminal 3 at Copenhagen Airport, to be integrated with the existing Terminal 2 – a warehouse of approx. 3,700 m2, which increases the number of truck gates by 20 percent, providing a clear improvement of flow, and a centralized handling facility for both import and export traffic.
-The coming new infrastructure will enhance the integration of the import and export handling services, eliminating the current need for customers to be pendling between two points of service, as well as optimizing the utilization of manpower and equipment. It is all about optimizing the supply chain for our customers.
-As a short-term solution to bridge the gap till the opening of the new terminal, we are leasing an additional adjacent facility for a 12-months period to meet the extraordinarily high demands for handling capacity.
-We work closely with Copenhagen Airport that is building up its position as a key air cargo hub, not only in the Scandinavian markets but also in a North European context, and our ongoing service improvements and infrastructural investments are proof of a long-term commitment by WFS, says Mr Egeland.
This year alone, WFS has renewed its cargo handling contract with Qatar Airways, Air China and Sichuan Airlines and counts leading carriers like Emirates among its key customers since November 5, 2019. In total, WFS is now handling the cargo of 31 online carriers at Copenhagen Airport, as well as providing cargo handling services for a further 127 offline carriers.
WFS made its debut at Copenhagen Airport with the opening of its first 4,600 m2 cargo terminal in 2006, adding a 3,000 m2 Terminal 2 facility at the beginning of 2010, as well as setting up a new 1,500 m2 facility dedicated to handling of pharma shipments.
