Dec 15, 2021 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport is seeing its cargo volumes rising fast in 2021, and fully recovering after the Covid-19 hit the markets by the end of 2019.
In this year's first 11 months, the airport has handled a total of 24,205 tonnes of cargo, which is 35.7 percent up on last year - and 9.6 percent above January-November 2019.
In November 2021 alone, a total of 3,331 tonnes of cargo was handled, including 2,058 tones of exports and 1,273 tonnes of imports - an increase by 30.1 and 34.4 percent, respectively, compared to the preceding month.
A key driver to the growth is the introduction of a weekly Hong Kong-Riga-Hong Kong freighter service by Venipak since September 18, 2021, further boosted by the addition of a second rotation on the route from October 27, 2021.
