Dec 01, 2021 (newstodate): The disputed Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft is now finding its way into the fleet of Norwegian.
The carrier has signed a lease contract for nine years for two Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with deliveries to begin shortly, in time for Norwegian's Summer 2022 program comprising approximately 270 routes.
-This agreement is an important step in Norwegian’s plan to build an efficient and modern fleet for the future. The flexibility of ‘power-by-the-hour’ will allow us to manage our capacity through the low season, adjusting for variations in seasonal demand, says Geir Karlsen, Norwegian CEO.
Under the agreement, Norwegian has the option to substitute the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft for new narrow-body Airbus A320 Family aircraft from Airbus.
In October 2021, Norwegian also announced the lease of up to thirteen Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with deliveries from Q4 2021 through Q1 2022.
The lease terms are between five and eight years, depending on aircraft age.
By November 2021, Norwegian's fleet comprises 48 aircraft in service, and plans aim at a fleet of 70 aircraft in time for the summer 2022 schedule.
