Dec 01, 2021 (newstodate): Ukraine has big ambitions, with plans for setting up a new national airline already in 2022.
As a significant step, the Ukrainian state has signed an MoU with Airbus for delivery of 22 aircraft including six Airbus A220, 12 A320neo, and four long-haul aircraft, either Airbus A330neo or A350.
In 2023, the route network will comprise eight domestic and one international route, growing to 37 routes, including eight domestic, in 2026 when the carrier will be operating some 15,000 flights.
To launch the airline in 2022, three to five aircraft with 150-180 seats will be required. In 2023, the number of aircraft will grow to 7-11 aircraft; in 2024 to 12-17; in 2025 to 15-17, and by 2026 to 14-20 aircraft of various types.
Supporting the project is the French consulting company Aerogestion.
The planned new carrier will be set up in direct competition to the loss-making privately owned carrier Ukraine International Airlines that operates a fleet comprising 27 aircraft including five Embraer E190 and two E195, 13 Boeing 737-800 and four Boeing 737-900ER, two Boeing 767-300 as well as one Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.
